Nurse of the year quits over paperwork

The RCN nurse of the year, Justine Whitaker, has quit her NHS position as a direct result of NHS changes and increased paperwork.

The nurse explains that she loves being a nurse, but so many changes made by NHS reforms means that she is spending less and less time nursing, and more time behind a desk.  She has now taken up a post as a college lecturer instead.

The news comes at a time when the government are facing all kinds of question over it's running of the NHS.  The conservatives are naturally making the most of things with Labour having made claims that motivation had never been better, the nurse of the year quitting her job is a tad unfortunate for them.

Justine explains that she actually agrees that NHS reforms are necessary, but the people making the decisions are so far away from them, they have no real idea of the true impact of their decisions.

The pharmaceutical industry has been picking up disillusioned nurses for several years now into nurse advisor jobs.  This high profile case may just spur the government to look again at the changes they are making.
