Are recruitment consultants really like wasps?
A PR man who's business is to build relations appears to have removed any chance he had of relations with recruitment consultants through comparing them to wasps!
Paul Carroll, a PR guru has explained that he thinks neither employers or candidates should enroll the help of recruitment consultants. He describes recruitment consultants as like wasps, in that they have no clear purpose for their being.
It's a statement which certainly won't win him any future business from the recruitment industry. It's also a poorly considered comment if one considers a few basic facts. Vast numbers of companies have used recruitment consultants to help them find staff for many years. For Mr Carroll to be correct, one must assume that these owners are either somewhat lacking in acumen if they are to have routinely used a practice of no real value.
In practise, of course, many business owners will have put this to the test, recruitment without agency help and recruitment with it, and still the recruitment industry is one of the best thriving industries in the UK.
I have found that recruiting the best available staff is a critical success factor for which I want every advantage I can. Good recruitment consultants advertise in many places giving them a much broader pool to choose from than an internal campaign could deliver. Also, good recruitment consultants will filter responses to a more manageable number saving much time and effort.
